The Sugar Free Special Relationship

The Sugar Free Special Relationship is based on the Conference, according to it’s creator.  The Special Relationship was created by the kindred cocktails user endless_optimism, though we are uncertain as to who this user really is, or if they have a twitter account (we couldn’t find one).

The first thing you’ll notice about this recipe is that it seems to have just about everything in it!  We were a little trepidatious at first, blending so many bold whiskey flavors (rye, bourbon and scotch!) with apple brandy and bitters.  How would all those strong flavors mesh, and wouldn’t it be exceedingly strong?

Sugar Free Mark Twain Cocktail

The Sugar Free Mark Twain Cocktail is our sugar free adaptation of the original that was referred to by Mark Twain himself!  We found the original recipe we adapted printed in The Craft of the Cocktail: Everything You Need to Know to Be a Master Bartender, with 500 Recipes, by Dale DeGroff.

However, the reference from Mr. Twain dates back to a letter written to his wife from London in January of 1874 (and quoted from Mark and Livy: The Love Story of Mark Twain and the Woman Who Almost Tamed Him, by Resa Willis):

The Sugar Free Smoky Grove

The Sugar Free Smoky Grove is one of the few cocktails we’ve found that feature Scotch.  As as avid Scotch connoisseur, we usually prefer to sip it straight, on the rocks, or with water and ice.  Scotch is so varied with what region it hails from and how it is prepared that the only thing that makes some Scotch’s comparable to others is just how they are processed!  When trying out a new Scotch cocktail, we try to use our blended Scotches for this, but feel free to try it out with whatever you may have on hand.  Every different Scotch with give each cocktail a different experience.
