Sugar Free Bohemian Cocktail

The Sugar Free Bohemian Cocktail * was adapted from the regular old Bohemian Recipe, with the obvious MDR Lab twists.  Cocktail Virgin claims that the original recipe was created by Misty Kalkofen over at the Green Street Grill in 2008.  However, you can also find the recipe reported at St. Germain’s website.

Between the two references, there are a couple different gin options.  MDR Labs try to recreate cocktails as close to the original, so we went with Beefeater.  Feel free to experiment, though (responsibly of course), as you never know what might work better for your palette.

The Sugar Free Conquistador

The Sugar Free Conquistador has a lot going on! From the aged rum to the ample citrus and bitters, the Sugar Free Conquistador brings a ton of flavor in one drink!

The original drink is credited to Sam Ross, but we made our adaptation from the recipe by searching Kindred Cocktails.

The Sugar Free Tom Collins

The Sugar Free Tom Collins Cocktail is as refreshing as it is delicious.  This beauty, first written about back in 1876 by the famous bartender, Jerry Thomas, has a little history behind it.

It’s believed that Jerry Thomas based this drink of the Great Tom Collins Hoax of 1874, which is described on wikipedia. Here is an excerpt:

The Sugar Free Special Relationship

The Sugar Free Special Relationship is based on the Conference, according to it’s creator.  The Special Relationship was created by the kindred cocktails user endless_optimism, though we are uncertain as to who this user really is, or if they have a twitter account (we couldn’t find one).

The first thing you’ll notice about this recipe is that it seems to have just about everything in it!  We were a little trepidatious at first, blending so many bold whiskey flavors (rye, bourbon and scotch!) with apple brandy and bitters.  How would all those strong flavors mesh, and wouldn’t it be exceedingly strong?

Sugar Free Charles Cocktail

The Sugar Free Charles Cocktail is a good one if you like Sweet Vermouth and Cognac (and really, who doesn’t?).

This simple little cocktail comes to us from DrinksMixer.com and is a little nebulous in it’s description.  The original recipe calls for a dash of bitters…

Which, of course, could mean absolutely anything!  There’s a bitters bundle over at Amazon that contains Old Fashioned, Lemon, Orange, Grapefruit, Peach, and Mint Bitters and another that boasts Plum, Aztec Chocolate, Cherry, Cranberry, Rhubarb, and Celery Bitters.  That doesn’t even include Angostura or Peychaud’s!

Sugar Free Angostura Fizz

The Sugar Free Angostura Fizz, also known as the Trinidad Fizz comes to us via the Bitters: A Spirited History of a Classic Cure-All, with Cocktails, Recipes, and Formulas, by Brad Thomas Parsons.

The text of the book states that the original recipe that this was adapted from appeared in the “Special Drinks for the Soda Fountain and Other Recipes” section of the 1908 Dr. Siegert’s Angostura Bitters recipe booklet, but did not reach much fame until included in the famous Baker’s 1946 book The Gentleman’s Companion: Volume 2.

The Sugar Free Metropole

The Sugar Free Metropole is a refreshing cocktail that captures a lot of the wonderful herby nuances from within the Dry Vermouth.  The bitters, which sometimes can be lost in complex cocktails, do add just that slightest bit of extra flavor.

We found the inspiration for the Sugar Free Metropole over at the Looka website (ran by Chuck Taggart).  He’s also got a little information on that page regarding the history of the Metropole, but I’ll summarize here as well!

The Sugar Free Woody Sour

The Sugar Free Woody Sour was adapted from an original recipe from Daniel Rutkowski.  We found it posted on kindredcocktails.com and had to try it!

Seriously, if it has Sugar Free Allspice (Pimento) Dram in it, we’ll probably try it!

This drink had a very broad flavor profile.  Anything that utilizes the allspice dram is automatically going to have some extra flavor.  A little goes a long way!  Adding the lemon adds just the right amount of citrus.  You could easily get away with just using bourbon or rye, but adding both gives you all the flavor of both worlds.

The Sugar Free Gold Baron

The Sugar Free Gold Baron has been adapted from the original cocktail as invented by Thomas Waugh over at Death + Co., in NYC.  Check out their site as they have several recipes listed on it as well as some handy hints on cocktail preparation.
