The Sugar Free Fool Moon was an instant success at the MDR Labs! The herbal flavors of the Creme de Violette mesh together so well with the mint and gin that in hindsight, the combination seems obvious!
We are always trying to find new recipes for our Sugar Free Creme de Violette, so we were excited to try this one out! The Sugar Free Fool Moon is adapted from Ted Haigh’s Vintage Spirits and Forgotten Cocktails, but the Fool Moon is an adapted recipe of the Blue Moon (which we also have listed in the MDR archives, here.)
The Sugar Free Fool Moon
- 2 oz Gin
- 3/4 oz Sugar Free Simple Syrup
- 1/2 oz ReaLemon
- 1 tspn Sugar Free Creme de Violette (Yvette)
- 4 Mint Leaves
Muddle the mint leaves in an old fashioned glass (we used a double, but you could get away with a single) with the Simple Syrup a little, being careful not to over-pulverize the mint leaves. Then add ice, then all the remaining ingredients and stir until the ice melts a little.
You can choose to strain the ice out at this point, if you don’t wish to worry about overwatering the cocktail. However, we kept it in and it was ice cold the whole time and leaving the mint in also had the benefit of making the end of the drink a little mintier, which was a nice bonus. Of course, with any cocktail, modify as you like and continue to mix, drink, and repeat (responsibly!)
