Sugar Free Pumpkin Spice Cocktail

The Sugar Free Pumpkin Spice Cocktail is an original MDR Labs creation!  The flavors of bourbon, pumpkin, cream, and the Sugar Free Allspice Dram meld together wonderfully in this new autumnal cocktail that can be served either cold or hot!

That’s right, with a little effort, the same combination of reagents can completely transform the Sugar Free Pumpkin Spice Cocktail from a cool and refreshing seasonal beverage, to a slightly spicier version to warm your innards in the cold fall evenings!

This one will be a go-to favorite for the MDR Labs in the fall season, only to make way for our Sugar Free Egg Nog once winter’s cold embrace takes over!

The Sugar Free Pumpkin Spice Cocktail

Cold Version:

Take all ingredients, except the nutmeg, and combine is a medium sized shaker tin over ice.  Give the mixture some good shaking in order to really froth up that cream.  Strain into a martini glass and grind a little bit of fresh nutmeg over top.  Enjoy!

Hot Version:

Mix exactly as with the Cold Version, up until the nutmeg step (maintaining the ice requirement guarantees that an over-boozy drink does not develop, so the ice step is still integral).  Now we face the challenge of heating our Sugar Free Pumpkin Spice cocktail without burning/ the cream component.  This can usually be accomplished by slowly heating the mixture.  A microwave is not recommended.  A slow warming process should be employed.  You can either transfer the cup to a pan of water and slowly raise the temperature while stirring… Or…  We poured our initial cocktail into a heat safe bottle and warmed it up in a baby-botttle warmer (just remember to cap and shake to avoid hot-spots!)

Once hot, transfer your cocktail into a martini glass, or even a nice mug and shave some nutmeg over the top.

*It is important to note that we employ the use of Pumpkin Extract and not Pumpkin Pie Extract.  We wanted to pure essence of pumpkin without the tag-along flavors that may come with the pie version.  Feel free to experiment with the Pumpkin Pie Extract, if you like, but be warned that the amount of Allspice Dram may need to be changed.  We found that All Star Extracts (via Amazon) had one of the few pure pumpkin extracts that we could find.
