Many older drinks may call for a few dashes, or a small amount of absinthe, but the Sugar Free Royale with Ease features it! I happen to like absinthe as it is (and I use this phrase with an internal snicker) a bouquet of flavors. It is hard to describe it as it’s flavor profile can change depending on the acidity of the drink, how much water is in it, the sweetness involved, and even the temperature! Now that absinthe is becoming much more popular, our mixologist friends are starting to use it more and more.
The Sugar Free Royale with Ease is a delicious, complex, and refreshing cocktail that is worth the time and effort to invest in all the required reagents. If you’ve never tasted absinthe before, feel free to start here!
Royale with Ease
1.5 oz Tenneyson Absinthe Royale (or any Absinthe really)
1.5 oz Light grapefruit juice*
1 oz Sugar Free Hibiscus Simple Syrup
0.5 oz ReaLime
0.25 oz Sugar Free Allspice Dram
3 dashes Angostura bitters
Combine ingredients in a mixing glass and shake. Strain into an ice-filled old-fashioned glass. Garnish with mint leaves and a grapefruit peel.
*Please remember our post regarding juice in cocktails. The actual carb count in this particular drink can easily be calculated. The light grapefruit juice (it doesn’t come in diet) is 13 gram per serving and a serving is 8 ounces. As we’re using 1.5 ounces, that comes to 18.75% of a serving, which comes to a net carb count of 2.44 grams. This is a little more than no carb, but should be pretty negligible. I’d probably have to drink two or three of these before even considering taking any insulin for it, but by then I’d probably be pretty sleepy!
The MDR Labs encourage you to drink responsibly. Mix, drink, repeat!
