The Sugar Free Woody Sour was adapted from an original recipe from Daniel Rutkowski. We found it posted on kindredcocktails.com and had to try it!
Seriously, if it has Sugar Free Allspice (Pimento) Dram in it, we’ll probably try it!
This drink had a very broad flavor profile. Anything that utilizes the allspice dram is automatically going to have some extra flavor. A little goes a long way! Adding the lemon adds just the right amount of citrus. You could easily get away with just using bourbon or rye, but adding both gives you all the flavor of both worlds.
We’re increasingly becoming bigger and bigger fans of the world of sours (and specifically the sugar free whiskey sour) and the Sugar Free Woody Sour is no exception!
The Sugar Free Woody Sour
- 1.5 oz Bourbon
- 3/4 oz Rye
- 3/4 oz ReaLemon
- 1/2 oz Sugar Free Simple Syrup
- 1/4 oz Sugar Free Allspice Dram
- 2 dashes Angostura Bitters*
- 1 peel lemon zest
Just add up all the ingredients in a small shaker cup over ice. Place some fresh ice in a single old fashioned glass. Cap and shake, then strain into the ice filled glass! Then zest the lemon over the glass, letting the oils drop into the glass.
*The original recipe called for Fee Brothers Whiskey Barrel Aged Bitters. We did not have those on hand, so we substituted the Angostura. While the Angostura version was delicious, I’m sure the whiskey bitters would have added a hint of smokiness that was lacking with the angostura. Once we get some, we’ll have to retry the drink and update you!
